The Golden Rules in the Bible

The Bible is a collection of various sacred texts which is believed to be divine inspiration. It clearly depicts the relationship between God Almighty and humans. It is a combination of the Old Testament and New Testament.

Christians and Jews believe in the Bible.

The Bible provides innumerable golden rules that are certainly capable to uplift humanity.  Whether one is a Christian, Jew or Muslim, one can easily learn different golden rules that will make one's life better.

What Golden Rules Are About?

Realistically, the term "Golden Rule" is not found in the Testament, but it is the most suitable way of ascribing the words of Jesus Christ. Jesus  firmly declared that do to others as you would like them do to you.

With respect to the old Testimonial, there are two things to understand. First, the Golden Rules are represented as the combinations of the teachings of the law and the prophets. In the book of Matthew, it says "do to others as you would like others do to you".  And in this regard, one can follow the laws and Prophet’s livelihood.

Moreover, human’s interpersonal relationships were addressed in the Golden rule of the Bible, but its message predominantly shows religious study and observations.

Golden Rules Path

It is a fact that Jesus is the path to heaven. To follow his path, commands, the golden rules lead to heaven. Furthermore, these rules are not only limited to the upcoming life, but also this life.

For example, Jesus says, “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them”. On another place, Jesus says, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few”.

Jesus summed up all golden rules in one sentence. It means if we want that people respect us, don’t kill us, don’t humiliate us, don’t deceive us, we must do all these things to others. How beautiful this rule is. If we adopt just one rule of Jesus, our life will become better.

In the second rule, Jesus showed us two paths. One is wider and extremely easy to follow. As that path is easy, but it leads toward chaos and miseries. Moreover, he indicated that a number of those attracted towards so-called ease is larger. So he warned us, don’t follow this path if we want success in both lives.

The second path is narrower and extremely difficult to follow. Anyone who follows this narrow path which is hard to lead but leads towards peace and righteousness, and those who find it will be fewer.

When Jesus showed us both paths and still if someone doesn’t follow these golden rules, it means he is pushing himself to the wide gate- a path to destruction. So you should try to change your path and walk through the narrow gate – a righteousness path.

Jesus Christ didn’t believe in an easy life. Indeed, He promised a tough life. As a Verse stated by Him:

“Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake.

But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” (Matt 10:21-22)

If you really want to follow Jesus, you will have to deny yourself first. There is a difference between love and following. No doubt, everyone loves Jesus more than themselves.

However, if you claim to love Jesus, it is mandatory for you to treat people really well even to your enemies. So if you want to have a key to heaven, Jesus is that key. Follow him that will lead you to heaven.

The exemplary life of Jesus with Golden Rules

Life of the mightiest messenger of God has been filled with innumerable golden incidents. Time to time, the “golden rules” were shown by Jesus to people He was interacting with. Once, He had compassion on 5000 hungry men, along with their wives and children, when He fed them from just a handful of fish and bread.

Jesus knew the sorrows what a hungry man actually survive along.  “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.  And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.”  No one is capable of fast longer than 30 hours, but Jesus did. Jesus fasted for 40 days!

He was the most credible person that has ever walked this earth to show morality. He introduced the most exemplary rules to uplift humanity. He taught how to live out and implement the golden rules in their daily lives. He always treated others the way He wanted to be treated.

When Jesus was there to cure, who wouldn’t want to be healed from any disease, instantly! Obviously, all would want so. Jesus cured lepers, cast out demons, healed paralyzed people, raised the dead, healed the blind, healed the mute, and many more.  Jesus used to spend his all-time in guiding, serving and curing. He is the perfect example of how to live out the golden rule throughout the livelihood.

God is Omniscient!

The Creator of all, the Almighty God, is the omniscient. He is “all-knowing”. He knows and sees everything happening in the Universe. Not even an atom can surpass Him, not even a single thing is concealed from His sight. So why shouldn’t we go in more depth and think more logical? Really, the need is to dig down deep and think about this concept.

God loves us so much that He sent His Messengers on the Earth among us, to guide us, and teach us the way to lead our life by benefiting our fellow beings. They die for us while making all possible efforts for the redemption of sins of their believers.

Even now if we imagine the hurdles they went through for us, definitely one will come to know how they felt for the people. How mind-blowing it is that he felt as we could imagine today. How hard it was for Almighty

God to allow His beloved Prophet to be mocked, ridiculed, spat on, beaten, whipped, scorned and murdered so that the people could be atoned for!  That is the purest narration of the golden rule. God treated us the way we should be treating Him every single day.  We should be dying to ourselves and living in His Holy will.

Of what people are confused?

It is commonly observed that people who are searching for truth in Christ get confused as they hear, “Do as I say and not as I do” and “Do to others as you want to be done to you” come from the mouth of the same person.

They say something different and contradictive to each other. The true believers must be serious about our faith.  If one really wants to be a credible witness for our Savior then we must stop the mentality of “Do as I say and not as I do.” If the believers of the Bible aren’t doing what they are expected to do, it will be supposed that they are expressing hypocrisy.

How Jews can implement the Golden rules of the Bible?

The immediate context of another scripture is about the pledge community. Impartiality in the verdict and hindering retaliation towards a "brother" is applied. On the other side, in Jewish opinion the words "fellow covenant,” "neighbor, “and "brother" were analogous. Similarly, the command of showing affection towards one’s neighbor is about noncovenant members.

So, it’s a Golden rule that the "alien" in Israel is not to be mistreated, but is to be regarded as a native-born Israeli. So Jews are directed to love the nontreaty members just as themselves.

The Old Testament possesses such themes in excess. It is stated that God loves the alien, the fatherless, and the widow and the Israelites are to love the alien as well. Impoverished strangers should be aided to let them remain in the land. Even the livestock of one's enemy is to be cared for and relieved of undue suffering. Impartial judgment is to be meted out to both Israel and alien alike. God's love, mercy, and grace far exceed his desire to punish the wicked.

In the book of Jonah, you can find one of the most remarkable examples of God’s love and affection for the alien. Jonah laments the extraordinary grace and love shown to the Godless Ninevites. So God’s love is unconditional and unfailing and quite evident throughout Hosea.

6 Bible verses that define the Golden Rules

Here are the 6 verses that are extremely helpful for all humanity:

  1. "In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 7:12).
  2. "Treat others the same way you want them to treat you (Luke 6:31).
  3. "The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' "On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets" (Matthew 22:39-40).
  4. "The second is this, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is no other commandment greater than these" (Mark 12:31).
  5. Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. For this, "you shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF" (Romans 13:8-9).
  6. For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF" (Galatians 5:14).

Conclusion, what Golden Words give in return!

It is obligatory to find out God’s will for leading a prosper life. One should keep making efforts on a daily basis to lead a life according to His laws. The effort should be to live a life for Him and to die in order to love others.

You will be amazed at how some people will react when you show them affection and care even when they couldn’t care equally about you. That is what Christ did for humanity. He knew how many lost souls would care little about Him when He paid for their sin. He did it, and that is what all people in this world should need to do.

We need to show everyone love, care, honesty, and respect. All the admiration and glory is to the King of the Kings. Stay strong as you live a life worthy of the calling. God blessing will be showered in such case. Therefore the "Golden Rule" presents God as having absolute positive regard for all human beings.

In order to be perfect, one has to imitate the purest philanthropy and unyielding impartiality of the Almighty, who seeks only the best of His creatures.
